Leica WDM65 Waveform Digitizer Module for Airborne Laser Scanners
Collect more information from each laser pulse
The Leica WDM65 Waveform Digitizer Module records the complete waveform of the reflection from surfaces intercepting the laser footprint, allowing advanced LIDAR data analysis for a variety of applications, and all without increasing system size. The WDM65 can be installed inside the existing System Controller on all ALS50-II, ALS60 and ALS Corridor Mapper systems for seamless operation.
Full Waveform Digitization (FWD) is now available for ALS-series Airborne Laser Scanners. This new capability provides additional recorded details for each reflected laser pulse, allowing sophisticated post-flight analysis for applications such as ground cover classification, forestry and biomass calculations. Waveform data is collected in parallel with conventional discrete-return rangefinding, so familiar workflow and data formats are maintained. On flights not requiring waveform data, the FWD function can be turned off, allowing discrete-return rangefinding to continue, extending disk storage. And with new solid-state removable storage, the entire ALS system can be operated at up to 7620 m (25,000 feet) AMSL, even in unpressurized aircraft.
Benefits:
Available - option on new systems, upgrade on fielded ALS50-II ALS60 and ALS Corridor Mappers
Compact – installed inside existing System Controller
Compatible - data output in industry-standard LAS 1.3 format
Fast – acquire waveforms at up to 120 kHz pulse rates, with automatic sub-sampling at higher pulse rates
Flexible – variety of user-selectable waveform length/sample interval options
Robust - solid-state drive (SSD) for data logging
Simple - operates in parallel with existing discrete-return rangefinding electronics
